Corporate & Social Responsibility

The Company has developed a mission statement (the “Company Statement”) which describes the way in which the Company seeks to make a positive impact on its stakeholders. All employees receive training on the Company Statement and performance against Corporate and Social Responsibility (CSR) goals is monitored through the management system. Examples of measures that relate to CSR goals include customer satisfaction measure such as delivery and product quality performance; the results of quality audits designed to improve the capability of key suppliers; information sharing, and reward and recognition systems for employees; delivery of growth in the value of shareholders’ investments; a policy for the environment with a commitment to a reduction in use of non-renewable energy and an increase in the use of recycling; and targeted levels of charitable fundraising by employees matched or exceeded by the Company.

In 2007 the Biocompatibles’ Charities Team raised over £2,400 plus monies for materials. The Team elected to support the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice, a local charity providing care for people with terminal illnesses, and the Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust, a charity funding research in order to improve treatment for those people affected by brain tumours. In addition, the Company supported individual employees in their more specific fund raising efforts, including donations to three breast cancer charities and to Cancer Research UK – Race for Life.

A new initiative identified by the Team and introduced in 2007 was to devote their support efforts more directly to a local project. In August, the company released 18 employees for the day to reroof and redecorate the Scout Hut at Treloars School, a special school for children with physical disabilities based nearby in Upper Froyle, Hampshire. It is the intention of the Team to continue this theme in 2008 and to ‘donate a further day’ to another local project.

In addition, in 2008 the Charities Team have selected to raise funds to support CHASE Hospice Care for Children. The Team’s fund-raising will be directed to the children’s hospice, Christopher’s. Christopher’s provides a home-from-home where families can come and spend some quality time together rand gives the life-limited child some independent time.
