DC Bead

DC Bead product shotDC Bead, a Drug-Eluting Bead, is a drug delivery embolisation system, intended to be loaded with a drug for the purpose of treating a variety of malignant hypervascularised tumours (e.g. hepatocellular carcinoma).

DC Bead is a drug delivery embolisation system for use in trans-arterial chemoembolisation (TACE).  This is a minimally invasive (non-surgical) procedure performed by an interventional radiologist.  DC Bead microspheres are produced from a biocompatible polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogel that has been modified with sulphonate groups for the controlled loading and delivery of chemotherapeutic drugs.  DC Bead occludes the blood flow to the target tissue and delivers a local and sustained dose of drug direct to the tumour.

DC Bead received CE mark approval in 2003 and is indicated for the treatment of malignant hypervascularised tumours and loading with doxorubicin. DC Bead is most commonly used for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), liver metastases, cholangiomas and neuroendocrine cancers.  DC Bead may also be loaded with the chemotherapeutic agent irinotecan for the treatment of patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC).

DC Bead is tinted blue for easy visualisation and is supplied in colour coded vials for added procedural safety and efficiency.
