Dear Colleagues,
During the past few years, the use of image-guided interventions in cancer treatment has experienced unparalleled growth. Several innovative techniques and devices for direct tumour ablation and transarterial therapy have been introduced. Sophisticated imaging methods improving tumour targeting and treatment monitoring have been devised. A number of trials have been successfully completed in different clinical settings. Interventional Oncology is gaining increasing acceptance as a viable alternate or complementary treatment for a variety of cancers.
In order to cater to the growing number of interventionists involved in oncology, the CIRSE Foundation is organising a meeting dedicated entirely to Interventional Oncology. The first European Conference on Interventional Oncology – ECIO – will take place April 10-12, 2008, in Florence, Italy.
Conference attendees will have the opportunity to choose from several “How-to-do-it” courses as well as special focus sessions on practical aspects of Interventional Oncology. The meeting will offer sessions on techniques, methods, and “tips and tricks” for tumour ablation, chemoembolization and radioembolization; imaging modalities for guidance, monitoring and follow-up; as well as clinical applications in tumours of the liver, lung, bone, kidney, prostate, breast, and retroperitoneum. Leading experts from around the world will present both, well-established and new, promising therapies of this exciting and rapidly evolving field.
The conference venue is located in the historical city centre of Florence and all congress hotels within short walking distance. This will give the attendees the opportunity to spend free time visiting some of Florence’s world renowned monuments and art galleries.
We believe that the ECIO 2008 will be a top scientific and educational event as well as a great opportunity to get together with old friends and meet new colleagues.
On behalf of the CIRSE Foundation, we would like to invite you to participate in the first European Conference on Interventional Oncology and we are very much looking forward to seeing you in Florence in April 2008.
