ILCA's 3rd Annual Conference: Priming Knowledge in Liver Cancer across Disciplines.
Dear colleagues,
Liver cancer is on a rapid increase worldwide triggering widespread interest and fresh focus surrounding all aspects of this disease. Given the naturally multidisciplinary nature of liver cancer care, however, no single conference or association has yet taken a transversal approach to liver cancer research by bringing together expertise from interrelated fields, research and treatment levels such as epidemiology, hepatology, immunology, interventional radiology, medical oncology, molecular biology, pathology, surgery, transplantation, basic and translational research, experimental and pre-clinical studies and novel therapies.
While there have undoubtedly been several initiatives focused on disseminating knowledge about liver cancer, these efforts are not enough. Only the active discussion of disease-specific research within a highly dedicated professional forum such as ILCA generates the necessary debate and exchange to advance the field and ultimately deliver improved treatment and patient care. Currently, this discussion takes place in separate meetings of different specialities and productive interaction between all areas of expertise involved in liver cancer is not optimal.
In response to this shortfall, a number of renowned peers and colleagues from different areas of expertise and geographic origin have collectively founded the International Liver Cancer Association (ILCA) to bring together individuals working in and around all liver cancer related disciplines. Our newly created association strives to welcome and incorporate individuals from all the scientific disciplines devoted to basic, translational and clinical research in liver cancer as individual members, and will also actively partner with other professional associations involved in any aspect related to liver cancer research.
As part of its mission, ILCA organises annual conferences to provide the necessary forum to stimulate and promote networking and information exchange.
We look forward to welcoming you to our group of respected experts, peers and friends and hope that you share your involvement in this exciting project with any colleagues who may also have an interest in being part of our efforts and participating in future ILCA activities. Only with the support from you and our community can ILCA deliver exciting and timely contributions to the field of liver cancer.
